St. Louis, MO (KTRS) Bernie Sanders has new group of supporters.
On Tuesday, the national organization, Black Men For Bernie’ launched their “Get In The Game” campaign in St. Louis. A group of about a dozen supports gathered on the steps of the old Courthouse in downtown St. Louis to encourage African-American males to throw their support behind Sanders.
Founder Bruce Carter says Sanders has a stronger history for civil rights than Hillary Clinton.
“Some of her work as Secretary of State that affected other countries that are black is like horrible, so we can talk about her having the experience, but we need to look and the experience and who was affected, whether it was the Haitians or Somalians and we need to hold people accountable.” said Carter.
Carter also said he chose to launch the campaign in St. Louis because of the civil unrest in Ferguson.
Calvina Brown the stepmother of Michael Brown was also attendance at the campaign launch. However, she wouldn’t say if she and her husband support Sanders. Brown would only say “we support change.”
“Black Men For Bernie” plans to campaign in 200 cities.
