COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) – Donald Trump says he will begin spending money on campaign advertising, despite what he views as comfortable leads in national and state preference polls.
The Republican presidential front-runner says he doesn’t “want to take any chances.” He spoke to reporters Tuesday on his private jet before a rally in nearby Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Trump says he’s planning to spend $2 million a week in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, the first states to vote in the 2016 presidential primary race. He has said he expected to have to spend $35 million in advertising by January 1.
Trump drew thousands to his rally Tuesday, and says he believes those people will turn out for Iowa’s Feb. 1 caucuses – even though many were from nearby Nebraska.
