Poplar Bluff, MO (KTRS) Poplar Bluff police say a man accused in a fatal shooting blames what he calls “bad dope” for the crime.
Joseph Wade Wisdom of Poplar Bluff is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of 50-year-old Stahl Lee Sturgeon of Doniphan.
Sturgeon’s body was found Tuesday inside his car at a Wal-Mart parking lot. Authorities say the shooting happened on U.S. 67 after Wisdom jumped out of a car while being driven to a rehab center. While on the highway, he convinced Sturgeon, who was passing by, to give him a ride.
A witness told police he saw the two men fighting inside the car before the rear window appeared to be shot.
Police say Wisdom told officers had used a bad batch of methamphetamine and hadn’t slept.
