(KTRS) – The Missouri Supreme Court has tossed out the 1991 double-murder convictions for Reginald Clemons.
Clemons has been fighting his guilty verdict and death sentence in the rape and killing of Julie and Robin Kerry. In a 4-3 decision the Supreme Court sent the case back to the circuit court. The state now has 60 days to retry Clemons. If charges are not re-filed, the case will be dismissed, but Clemons will remain in prison on a separate 15-year sentence for a different crime. Clemons has maintained that police beat a confession out of him.
The Kerry sisters were raped and killed on the Chain of Rocks Bridge in April 1991.
