BRENTWOOD, Mo. (AP) – Supporters of Missouri’s two major party candidates for governor gathered Thursday for news conferences minutes apart in the same suburban St. Louis building to criticize the other candidate’s record on women’s issues.
The Missouri Democratic Party criticized Republican Eric Greitens for continuing to use a TV ad featuring Vietnam veteran Robert Murphy, whose Facebook page has internet memes that among other things joke about the difference in how liberal and conservative women fight rapists.
The Greitens campaign responded with a news conference featuring former Missouri House Speaker Catherine Hanaway and former state Treasurer Sarah Steelman.
They criticized Democrat Chris Koster’s 2007 vote against a bill to help sexual abuse victims and his acceptance of campaign contributions from a lobbyist for backpage.com, whose ads have been accused of promoting sex trafficking.
