GRANITE CITY, Ill. (AP) – An unmarked police car stolen from Granite City has been recovered in nearby north St. Louis County, but several guns and other police equipment remain missing.
Granite City Police Chief Rich Miller said the car was found Tuesday in the small city of Norwood Court along Interstate 70 west of St. Louis. The 2014 Ford Fusion was stolen Monday night after an off-duty officer left the car to check on a driver slumped at the wheel of a minivan.
The unidentified officer suffered minor injuries when he was struck by his squad car as it was being stolen. The minivan driver also fled.
