BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) – The 26-year-old son of a former Alorton mayor has been sentenced to consecutive life sentences for killing two men in the nearby village of Washington Park.
Randy McCallum Jr. was sentenced Thursday in St. Clair County Circuit Court following his February first-degree murder convictions in the 2009 deaths of Charles Black and Kevin McVay Jr.
The Belleville News-Democrat reports that jurors heard a recording in which McCallum said he acted in self-defense and called himself a “thug” who “did what he had to do” in a conversation with his stepmother while in jail awaiting trial.
McCallum is the son of Randy McCallum Sr., who in 2012 was sentenced to 43 months in federal prison for drug and theft offenses while mayor.
