Springfield, IL  (AP)  Governor Bruce Rauner’s vision of a grand two-year budget compromise with Illinois lawmakers is becoming more difficult to accomplish as the clock ticks down on this year’s legislative session.

Rauner has asked for pro-business and union-weakening proposals and other legislative changes as part of a budget compromise. While Rauner remains optimistic he can get a deal done before the May 31 session deadline, Democrats who control the Legislature have largely dismissed his ideas.

After lawmakers adjourn, a spending plan will require support from three-fifths of each chamber, rather than a simple majority. That will make it harder to end the budget standoff that’s now in its eleventh month.
