Pamela Hupp, the woman accused of murder in a bizzare case, has been released from a hospital and booked into jail in St. Charles County.
Hupp was arrested in the death of 33 yr old Louis R. Gumpenberger, a week after fatally shooting him at her O’Fallon home in what she told police was as a home invasion. Hupp declined to answer detectives’ questions after her arrest but asked to go to the restroom, where she reportedly stabbed herself in the wrists and neck with a pen.
Police say Hupp, created plot to kill Gumpenberger, to take the heat off her in connection with a Lincoln County murder case. Hupp’s friend, Elizabeth Faria was murdered in 2011. Faria’s husband, Russell Faria, was convicted in that case, with Hupp serving as a key witness in the trial.
Russell Faria was later acquitted and released from prison. Faria sued Lincoln County officials last month, saying they had failed to seriously investigate Hupp, who Betsy Faria named as the sole beneficiary of a $150,000 life insurance policy shortly before her death.
The Post- Dispatch reports that Hupp is expected to be arraigned via video from jail on Friday.
