(KTRS) – The city of Pagedale is facing a federal lawsuit, the plaintiffs say the city repeatedly ticketed residents for infractions like high grass and sagging pants.
The Post-Dispatch first reported on the city’s ticketing practices. The suit was filed this weekend by the Institute for Justice office in Washington State, they are seeking to gain class action status. The paper reports that Pagedale has shifted its focus to non-traffic violations because they are not governed by new revenue limits. Last year the city issued more than 2,200 citations for so-called nuisance violations–nearly two per household.
Residents can even be ticketed for “issues” such as barbecuing in the front yard or having mismatched curtains in windows.
