ST. LOUIS (KTRS) Plans to renovate the Scottrade Center with $64 million in public funding are headed for court … now that critics have sued to block the funding on the basis it’s unconstitutional.
The lawsuit’s backers include former state representative Jeanette Oxford and 20th Ward Alderwoman Cara Spencer. Spencer says the agreement violates the state constitution because it grants substantial public money to a for-profit corporation for the purpose of assisting that corporation to make further profits for itself.
In a statement, Mayor Lyda Krewson says the city will vigorously defend the city, its ordinances and agreements.
