BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) – Grand jurors have charged a man with murder in the stabbing deaths of three people at a southern Illinois beauty salon more than a decade ago.
The Belleville News Democrat reports one-time suspect 50-year-old Samuel L. Johnson of St. Louis was charged with first-degree murder in an indictment unsealed Monday. He is accused in the March 2, 2005 killings in Belleville.
Johnson was arrested days after the killings and charged with attempted residential burglary. Prosecutors at the time said there wasn’t enough evidence to charge Johnson with murder. St. Clair County prosecutors say they presented the grand jury with new evidence.
Another suspect, Darrell Lane, was acquitted of the killings in 2010.
Johnson did not have an attorney listed in court records who could comment for him.
