(KTRS) – As residents across the state deal with floodwaters, officials say they should also be aware of other health risks.
The floodwater can be contaminated with sewage and hazardous materials. The sewage treatment plant in Fentor was flooded this week causing raw sewage to flow into the Meramec River. People should keep children and pets away from floodwater and people should wear boots, gloves, and goggles when cleaning up flooded areas.
The Humane Society is offering mobile kennels near some flood sites to provide shelter for displaced pets.
