St. Louis, MO  (KTRS)  A St. Louis police officer is recovering after an accidental shooting.

Authorities say the incident happened late Saturday night when the officer pulled over a vehicle for a traffic violation near North Broadway and North Grand in north St. Louis. The driver of the vehicle that was pulled over opened the the door, hitting the officer’s service weapon, causing it to discharge.

The officer suffered a gunshot wound to his leg. He is in stable condition.
