Ferguson, MO (KTRS) Ferguson’s newly elected council members are officially on the job.
Linda Lipka, Heather Robinett, and returning Councilman Keith Kallstrom were sworn in at Tuesday night’s city council meeting. Lipka of the 1st ward says she’s ready to get to work.
“My main goal is to get the consent decree moving very smoothly and very quickly and getting everybody on board. Once we have that. Then once we have that going, I have other goals I want to work on, but first and foremost, I want to be very connected to my ward and I want to find out what people in ward one are looking for.” said Lipka.
Lipka is replacing Mark Byrne who didn’t run for re-election. Byrne was not present at the city council meeting due to an illness.
Robinett of the 2nd ward, says her main priority is ensuring that the consent decree is implemented.
“I would really like to see the consent decree implemented properly and fairly. I will work hard to make sure that happens, and community policing especially.” said Robinett.
Robinett is replacing Dwayne James, who didn’t run for reelection due to term limits.
Kallstrom is serving his 7th term in Ferguson’s 3rd ward.
Residents and community leaders also paid tribute to the James. The 9 year, 2nd ward councilman was presented with two plaques and also a bag of licorice from Councilwoman Ella Jones.
James called this transition “bittersweet.” He also had some advice for his successor, Robinett.
“Heather has a strong passion, a strong love for the community and as I tell everyone, enjoy that. Enjoy the ride. Enjoy meeting new people, learning, and keep an open mind.” said James.
