ST. LOUIS (KTRS) Charges have been filed against the driver in an incident last night in the Grove neighborhood. St. Louis police say the Circuit Attorney’s Office issued warrants against 59-year-old Mark Colao in connection with the incident. The incident happened during a vigil in the Grove neighborhood Wednesday night for a transgender suspect killed by police during a confrontation earlier this week.
Witnesses claim the driver attempted to drive through a crowd during the vigil on Manchester, but police give this account of what happened. A group of protesters blocked traffic in all directions. A vehicle approached, stopped, honked its horn and attempted to drive around the protesters.
The protesters then surrounded the vehicle and began striking it with their hands and a flag pole. Several protesters also jumped on the car. Police say when the driver attempted to drive away, three of those protesters fell from the car, suffering minor injuries. Police attempted to stop driver of vehicle who initially refused to stop. He stopped about a block away and was taken into custody for felony fleeing. St. Louis Police released a video of the incident: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_mTavDs7VI&feature=youtu.be
Meanwhile, 28-year-old Kristy Thompson was charged with assault in connection to the fatal police shooting earlier this week in north St. Louis. Police say officers responded to a knife attack at a residence along Ridge Avenue Tuesday morning. Upon arrival, officers found a 30-year-old man suffering from multiple wounds from the attack. That’s when police say the suspect, Kenny Kiwi Herring attacked an officer with a knife, leading to police shooting him. The charges against Thompson stem from the knife attack against the 30-year-old victim.
