JEFFERSON CITY (KTRS) In a letter to legislative leaders, Missouri Lieutenant Governor Mike Parson formally called on members of the Missouri Senate to begin proceedings to remove State Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal from office, and he called for another special session to do so. The legislature has already met in two special sessions so far this year.
Republican and Democratic state Senate leaders Tuesday rescinded all of the committee assignments of Chappelle-Nadal. Chappelle-Nadal had briefly posted a social media remark last week hoping for Pres. Donald Trump’s assassination. The St. Louis area lawmaker has resisted calls to resign for posting a Facebook comment last week that said: “I hope Trump is assassinated!”
Chappelle-Nadal later deleted the statement and has since apologized. But Missouri’s Republican governor and lieutenant governor have said senators should oust her from office if she doesn’t resign.
She had been a member of nine legislative committees. Senate President Pro Tem Ron Richard and Minority Leader Gina Walsh rescinded those assignments.
