(KTRS) – Missouri lawmakers are shifting their focus, with a Senate panel debating a proposed ban on the donation of fetal-tissue.
The legislation comes after a series of now-discredited videos from anti-abortion activists appeared to show Planned Parenthood officials discussing the sale of fetal tissue. Planned Parenthood officials say the St. Louis clinic–which is the only clinic in the state providing abortions–does not participate in a fetal-tissue donation program.
Researchers use stem cells from the fetal tissue to discover treatments for afflictions such as cancer, diabetes, ALS, and Alzheimer’s.
The Missouri House is also set to debate current abortion policies.
