JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) – Republican leaders of a Missouri Senate investigation say they didn’t find evidence that Planned Parenthood illegally sold fetal tissue in the state.

However, they say the investigation did indicate that Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri did not follow state law and regulatory procedures for disposal and testing of fetal tissue. And the investigation found gaps in the organization’s record keeping.

The Columbia Daily Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/29vbLfX ) seven lawmakers attended a news conference Tuesday to discuss the findings of the investigation. They included state Sen. Kurt Schaefer, of Columbia, who is running for attorney general.

Planned Parenthood has vehemently denied it ever sold fetal tissue. Affiliate president Mary Kogut said Tuesday lawmakers were more interested in denying access to abortion services than in finding the truth.
