FORT LEONARD WOOD, MO. (AP)- Fort Leonard Wood is planning a memorial service Friday for five international soldiers who were temporarily assigned to the Missouri Army installation when their vehicle was caught in floodwaters.
The soldiers were returning from a shopping trip on Dec. 26 when their vehicle was swept off a low water crossing near the south-central Missouri town of Crocker.
The victims were identified last week as Maj. Mohammad Hassan Ibrahim, of Egypt; Maj. Akram Abu Al-rub, of Jordan; Capt. Ahmed Moussouni, of Algeria; Capt. Ahmed Abdelghani, of Egypt; and Capt. Hasman Hussin, of Malaysia.
All five soldiers were attending officer education at the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence. The program brings troops from other countries to the installation to study engineering, military policing and chemical defense.
