Earth City, MO (KTRS) The St. Louis area has its first medical marijuana farm.
The non-profit organization called BeLeaf in Earth City is one of two organizations the state has granted a license for the cultivation of medical marijuana. The license allows the facility to grow marijuana for the treatment of the most severe forms of epilepsy with cannabidoil.
John Curtis, the Director of Production, says they’ve had about an 85-percent success rate with this treatment.
“The licenses allow us to produce cannabis and then extract the oil from it to help people who have intractable epilepsy. So in order to have intractable epilepsy you have to have tried and failed three pharmaceutical protocols.” Curtis added.
Curtis also says Beleaf is hoping voters approve a November ballot initiative to expand the medical marijuana program in Missouri.
