St. Louis, MO (KTRS) Today is Mayor Francis Slay’s last full day in office after serving four terms.
To mark the occasion, staffers will hang a portrait of Slay at City Hall during a ceremony this afternoon. Slay was first elected to the Board of Alderman back in 1985. He later became the president of the Board of Alderman, before he was elected in 2001 to the mayor’s office.
Slay who is St. Louis’ longest serving mayor announced last year his decision not to seek another term. As for the next chapter in his life, Slay will return to practicing law at a downtown law firm.
Mayor-Elect Lyda Krewson will be sworn in as St. Louis’ first female mayor on Tuesday.
