(KTRS) -St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson says Thursday’s officer-involved shooting started as a traffic stop at the intersection of Kingshighway and McPherson.
In a press conference this past hour, Dotson said an officer pulled a driver over for running a red light. When the officer returned to his car to write up two tickets for the incident, Dotson says the suspect walked up to the driver’s side door of the police car and started to argue the tickets with the officer. The officer then followed the suspect back to his car.
At the suspect’s car, the officer said the man reached for his glove box and pulled out a hunting knife and threatened the officer. Dotson also said that the police car did not have a dash cam, but it would not have helped in this situation because the suspect was parked behind the police car.
