BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) – A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for killing the owner of an East St. Louis beauty supply store two years ago during an attempted robbery.
John Paraham of East St. Louis pleaded guilty Friday in St. Clair County Court to first-degree murder in the death of Abdulaziz Al-Hakim. St. Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan Kelly said in court that Paraham will have to serve 100 percent of his 35-year sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
The Belleville News-Democrat (http://bit.ly/1ldo3dm ) reports that a co-defendant in the case, Travion Wells, also is charged with first-degree murder and will go to trial. It wasn’t immediately known whether he has an attorney.
Al-Hakim was shot and killed in October 2013 at his Beauty Royal Supply Store.
