( KTRS ) One man is dead after an officer involved shooting at a Walmart in Cahokia.

Authorities report that an off duty Washington Park officer saw a wanted man at the store and contacted the Cahokia Police Department.

Officers tried to take the man into custody, but he fled after a struggle. That is when the off-duty officer fired at the fleeing man multiple times, striking him once.

The man was able to flee in a car, but left the road about a mile away. He was then arrested and taken to a hospital, where he died.

At this time police have not said why the man was wanted or released his identity.
