( KTRS ) A man has been charged with assault for trying to run over two police officers with a car this weekend.

Authorities say 23-year-old Edward Montgomery attempted to strike down the officers Friday night near an apartment complex on Goodfellow in north St. Louis.

The officers were reportedly responding to call for shot fired in the area and were approaching Montgomery’s car when he came at them.

One officer fired at the vehicle but the suspect was able to flee. The investigation is ongoing.
