HILLSBORO, Mo. (AP) – A suburban St. Louis man is jailed on $250,000 cash bond after being accused of fatally stabbing his father in the back during an argument and pushing him down basement stairs.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Jefferson County prosecutors charged 32-year-old Kenneth Stotts on Saturday with second-degree murder.
Arnold police Lt. James Jones said Stotts’ mother told police she returned home Friday night and found 65-year-old Thomas Stotts Sr.’s body in their duplex’s basement. Kenneth Stotts was arrested a short time later.
Jones says that after stabbing his father, lodging the knife in his back, Kenneth Stotts pushed the victim down the basement steps when the man tried to follow his son back upstairs.
It wasn’t immediately clear if Kenneth Stotts had an attorney Monday.
