JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Missouri Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder plans to announce his candidacy for governor on Sunday.
Kinder’s campaign committee has scheduled a 4 p.m. Sunday political announcement near the scene of last year’s protests and civil unrest in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson.
St. Louis County Republican Chairman Bruce Buwalda told the Associated Press on Friday that Kinder told him he is running for governor and asked Buwalda to invite people to the announcement.
Kinder campaign adviser Pam Dixon declined to comment about Kinder’s announcement.
Republicans appear headed for a crowded gubernatorial primary. Three other candidates already are in the race and more are expected to join.
Kinder has served as lieutenant governor since 2005.
