Lake St. Louis, MO (KTRS)   A suspected car thief is dead after being shot by a homeowner in Lake St. Louis.

Police say this happened at just before 1 a.m. Friday at a home on Monterey Cypress Drive. The homeowner told police he heard his car alarm sound and went outside. That’s when he confronted the suspect and fired shots.

The suspect reportedly was able to drive away. He was found dead inside of the vehicle about a block away on Quail Meadows Court. The vehicle rolled and hit a home.

The name of the suspect hasn’t been released.
