( KTRS ) Illinois State Police have been called to investigate a death at the Madison County Jail.

A press release says that around 11am Monday morning the Madison County Sheriffs Department requested the ISP to assume a ‘death investigation’ occurring within the jail facility.

The deceased has been identified as 61 year old John Newsome Sr, of Madison, IL. Newsome’s death is believed to be a homicide and a suspect is in custody.

No further details have been released.
