( KTRS ) Illinois State Police are investigating an officer involved shooting which occurred Thursday afternoon.

Authorities report that state police were searching for a suspect wanted in connection with a robbery of the Family Drug pharmacy in Carterville. Around 3 pm officers located the suspect at a house in Hurst,Illinois.

When they attempted to enter the home, the suspect reportedly displayed a handgun. Fearing for their safety, officers opened fire and struck the suspect. He was transported to a local area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

ISP Crime Scene and ISP Division of Internal Investigations are conducting the investigation. No further information at this time.
