( KTRS ) Agricultural leaders have established a not-for-profit Illinois Fairgrounds Foundation to catch up on nearly $200 million in needed maintenance.
The foundation’s task will be to raise funds to maintain the fairgrounds in Springfield and DuQuoin. Combined, the fairgrounds need to raise $180 million to pay for overdue maintenance. Gov. Bruce Rauner supported legislation last spring in the General Assembly to create the foundation, but the measure stalled.
The Illinois State Fair in Springfield runs through Sunday.
