( KTRS ) Illinois legislative leaders say they made minor progress during a meeting on the state budget stalemate, including agreeing to try again to overhaul state pensions.
Gov. Bruce Rauner, GOP leaders Sen. Christine Radogno and Rep. Jim Durkin along with House Speaker Michael Madigan and Senate President John Cullerton met Tuesday. It was the second group meeting since Illinois entered the July 1 fiscal year without a spending plan.
Madigan, Radogno and Durkin all agreed to have their staffs meet to try to work out a new plan to address Illinois’ multibillion-dollar unfunded pension liability. The Illinois Supreme Court threw out a previous plan that lawmakers said would save the state billions in contributions.
Leaders agreed to meet again next week.
