( KTRS ) The unprecedented budget impasse in Illinois is eroding services to help troubled youth, including a widely praised program called Redeploy Illinois.
Nearly $5 million have been allocated in previous years for the community-based program that’s an alternative to prison. However, money hasn’t been allocated with the impasse, leaving more than 100 kids without the counseling or treatment it provided.
Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner and legislative Democrats couldn’t come to an agreement last week over a budget for the current fiscal year and the one that starts July 1.
