Phelps County, MO (KTRS) A forensic examination of remains found last month in Phelps County has confirmed that they are of a missing autistic boy.
Thirteen-year-old Johnathan Shay of St. James had been missing since July. Investigators say the examination will continue in an attempt to determine a cause of death.
“We want to thank the community, law enforcement agencies, search and rescue professionals and Emergency Medical Services for their support of the family and the Sheriff’s department during this trying period,” said Phelps County Sheriff Rick Lisenbe. He added, “Please continue to pray, support and respect the family during this grieving period.”
Shay’s family was notified of the results on Thursday.
