ST. LOUIS (KTRS) In the north city neighborhood of Hamilton Heights, three people, including two Laclede gas workers, are dead, the result of a shooting in the 5900 hundred block of Minerva just before noon Thursday. St. Louis police say a gunman opened fire on two Laclede gas workers, killing both of them, before fatally shooting himself. Police say it’s unclear why the gunman shot the employees. Names of the victims and the shooter have not been released, pending notification of next of kin. Authorities say one worker was in his 20s, the other in his 50s.
Police spokeswoman Schron Jackson says the victims were working when the suspect “walked up and started shooting at them before turning the gun on himself.”
Laclede Gas says in a statement that the company is “shocked and grieving,” and working with police.
Laclede Gas and Ameren Missouri pulled workers off the streets after the shootings. Laclede says the move was made as a precaution. Ameren Missouri Senior Vice President Mark Birk also cited a precaution in bringing all crews in St. Louis back to an operations center.
Meanwhile, leaders with Laclede Gas are looking into a security plan in response to this tragedy. Last night Laclede Gas held a meeting to discuss putting plan in place to keep employees safe. Details of that plan haven’t been released. In the meantime, Laclede is offering grief counseling services for employees.
