(KTRS) – The festive mood at the annual “Winter Wonderland” light display in Tilles Park was disrupted Wednesday.
The Post-Dispatch reports that passengers in horse-drawn carriages were greeted by supporters and protesters. Members of the St. Louis Animal Rights Team were there to mark two years since a horse named King, died while giving carriage rides at the holiday attraction. Critics say that using horses for carriage rides is cruel, while supporters say that it is equivalent to a retirement job for draft horses.
It is unclear who has regulatory control over carriage rides in St. Louis county.
