GRANDVIEW, Mo. (AP) – A Grandview woman has been charged in connection with the shooting of her 5-year-old granddaughter.
Forty-three-year-old Taprill R. Barnett faces one count of felony child endangerment in the incident Monday.
Court records say that Barnett told police she was cleaning her gun at home while the girl was playing in another room.
Barnett slid the gun under the couch when the girl and another child began running into the living room to prevent the children from getting the gun. After Barnett left the room, she heard a “pop” and found the girl shot in the leg.
The girl survived the injury.
Prosecutors requested a $30,000 bond and asked that Barnett have no unsupervised contact with children under 17-years-old.
It was not immediately clear if Barnett has an attorney.
