(KTRS) – The public portion of today’s Illinois budget summit is over and the Governor and lawmakers are speaking behind closed doors.
Governor Bruce Rauner closed the public session with comments about the need to address what he sees as the root causes of Illinois’ financial problems. The governor wants to restrict workers’ compensation and liability lawsuit payouts and restrict union power as a way to make business grow and produce more revenue.
Democratic leaders argue that Rauner’s proposals should be considered separately from the budget. The state has been operating without a budge since July.
