FULTON, Mo. (AP) – The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for sections of a central Missouri county because of a failing dam on a small lake.
The weather service issued the warning Wednesday for parts of Callaway County because the dam at Glovers Spring Lake east of Fulton is failing. When the dam fails, floodwaters will move down Crows Fork Creek and the Auxvasse Creek, impacting a few county roadways.
People in the path of the water are advised to move to higher ground.
Liz Basnett, Callaway County’s emergency management director, told The Columbia Daily Tribune (http://j.mp/2atFPFZ) the 35-acre lake is owned by a homeowners association. She says water has been pouring widening a gash in the dam.
Basnett says homes closest to the dam are on high ground.
