Saint Louis FC falls to conference rival Arizona United SC 2-1 on the road Saturday night.
It was hot match, with the temperature at kick-off reading well over 100 degrees. The referees made two mandatory water breaks during the game to help combat the desert heat.
The first goal came from Arizona’s Tyler Blackwood in the 9th minute. He received a great through ball from Luke Rooney, and was placed just in front of the scrambling STL FC defense, allowing him to tap the ball into the goal.
Saint Louis ended the first half with five corner kicks, six shots and hungry for goals. After the half, Arizona extended their lead. Former Saint Louis FC player, Peter Kelly, assisted Long Tan for another Arizona United goal.
Saint Louis had many chances, but never found a connection. Mark Pais held off the Arizona offense, making two saves, giving him a total of three for the night.
In added time, Jordan Roberts was able put STL FC on the board. He found a hole in the Arizona defense and took the shot.
STLFC’s next home game is June 25th against the reigning MLS Champions’ USL affiliate, Portland Timbers 2. For tickets, contact an Account Executive at 636.680.0997, tickets@saintlouisfc.com, or visit saintlouisfc.com today!
