Wentzville, MO  (KTRS)  A debate is heating up over the long time mascot at Holt High School in the Wentzville School District.

A student has started a petition calling for the removal of the school’s Indian mascot, claiming that it’s offensive to native Americans. This prompted a counter petition to keep the mascot. Those in favor of the mascot claim it’s not offensive and it means “strong warrior.”

The mascot has been in place since 1896.
