ST. LOUIS (AP) – A judge has granted a request to move Reginald Clemons to the St. Louis city jail while he awaits retrial on charges of raping and killing two sisters on the Chain of Rocks Bridge in 1991.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that St. Louis Circuit Judge Rex Burlison approved the move during a hearing Monday. Clemons, who is 44, has been housed at the Potosi Correctional Center.
Jury selection in the new murder trial is scheduled for Feb. 23, with opening arguments expected Feb. 27.
Clemons has been fighting his death sentence for the murders of 20-year-old Julie Kerry and 19-year-old Robin Kerry, 19. The Missouri Supreme Court in November overturned his conviction and sent the case back to circuit court.
