SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) – Illinois’ budget crisis is making city halls across the state nervous.
Local governments have not received state money owed them because Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner and legislative Democrats are unable to agree on a spending plan. The two sides plan to meet Tuesday in a partially public summit.
Camie Sanders is mayor of Marshall in eastern Illinois. He says the city threatened to shut off power to a state truck barn but held off.
St. Clair County near St. Louis and other counties have filed lawsuits seeking 911 service payments.
The Mundelein Village Board in suburban Chicago adopted a resolution demanding what is now about $920,000 owed by the state in tax distributions.
Rauner spokeswoman Catherine Kelly says the governor understands the frustration but blames Democrats for not approving release of the money.
