( KTRS ) A church elder from the Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto, IL. faces charges related to the unauthorized videotaping of at least two individuals.

An assistant pastor is also accused of helping destroy the evidence. On Christmas Eve police we’re called to the church after several hidden cameras were found. Earlier in the evening, upon learning of the discovery of his cameras inside the church, Von Bergen attempted to retrieve the cameras.

At that time, he was confronted by Hanson who, during the course of their conversation, agreed to destroy the memory cards to get rid of the evidence. Gibbons says the destruction of that evidence will make prosecution difficult and would not reveal how many cameras have been found because the investigation is on going.

Court documents indicate one camera was installed in a changing area. The state’s attorney is asking that anyone with information about the case should contact the Bethalto Police Department.
