COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (AP) – The father of a southern Illinois man who died in a fiery weekend crash says a piece of his son’s skull and the son’s hands were found at the crash site days later.
Mike McPherson says the body parts belonging to 25-year-old Jared McPherson of Bethalto were retrieved Wednesday morning so they could be cremated with the rest of the body.
The Belleville News-Dispatch reports Jared McPherson and another man were killed Saturday when their truck left Interstate 255, struck a tree and caught fire.
St. Clair County Coroner Rick Stone says the condition of the bodies made it difficult to tell if any parts were missing. He says the bodies sustained third- and fourth-degree burns and were hit with water from high-pressure fire hoses before they were extricated.
