( KTRS ) A Belleville woman who pleaded guilty to fraud charges for lying about a terminal ovarian cancer diagnosis has been sentenced to three years in prison.
Alissa Jackson, 32, was charged in June 2014 with bilking thousands of dollars in donations, free food and a donated minivan from hundreds of people on behalf of “Alissa’s Army.” She was sentenced Tuesday in St. Clair County Circuit Court after pleading guilty, in December, to two counts of theft of more than $500 by deception.
Jackson could have been sentenced to probation or up to five years in prison. St. Clair State’s Attorney Brendan Kelly asked the judge for a four-year prison sentence.
