BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) – A southern Illinois woman has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty but mentally ill to charges she wrapped her newborn son in a towel and plastic bag and left him in a drawer to die in 2007.
Elyse Mamino was charged with the baby boy’s death the day she was paroled from an Illinois prison in 2014 after serving a six-year sentence for trying to drown her newborn daughter in a toilet in 2008. The Belleville News-Democrat (http://bit.ly/1MFJhLD ) reports that she entered the plea in the baby boy’s death on July 1.
Mamino was sentenced Thursday to 12 years in prison on a charge of involuntary manslaughter and three years in prison on a charge of concealment of a homicidal death.
The now 6-year-old baby girl survived and is in her father’s custody.
