( KTRS ) Illinois State Fair officials say numbers this year were down from the last.
A report shows that attendance, for the fair that ran from Aug 11th to the 21st, was around 357,000. Heavy rains and high temps are believed to be the reason numbers weren’t as high as last years.
During the fair more than 7 inches of rain fell, 6 inches of that fell on August 12th.
Still though, money collected at the fair this year is expected to surpass 2015’s revenue levels. This summers grandstand concerts by artists – Meghan Trainor, Jake Owen, KISS, and Cole Swindell definitely helped. Ticket sales for those concerts brought in around $2.8 Million.
State Fair Manager Kevin Gordon said in a release that “Someone once stated that conducting the Illinois State Fair consisted of 15% planning and 85% weather, and after this year’s fair, I tend to believe it,”
