( KTRS ) Police say a suspected carjacker was fatally shot by the person he tried to rob.

Investigators say the 52-year-old owner of the vehicle told police that when an armed man approached him and demanded his vehicle, he feared for his safety and fired his gun.

The suspect then fled, but investigators say the would-be car jacker, 24-year-old Christopher Nelson, was found a short time later, dead, in a vacant lot.

Police say the matter has been classified as a “justifiable homicide,” but an investigation continues.
